Lalo Guerrero School of Music - Art in the Park

The Lalo Guerrero School of Music was created to fill the gap left in arts/music education. By developing musical talents the students benefit from increased creativity, self-esteem and discipline.

Lalo Guerrero - Father of Chicano Music

Lalo Guerrero is often referred to as the father of Chicano music. The Smithsonian referred to him as a "national treasure" and he was decorated by President Bill Clinton with the Medal of Freedom, the highest honor bestowed upon artists in the United States of America. Mr. Guerrero was the author of such timeless classics as, "Cancion Mexicana", "Barrio Viejo" and humorous parodies that raised political awareness. The Lalo Guerrero School of Music was named for him to continue his legacy and pass along his passion for music and culture.

PAST PROJECTS - Project Redwoods

We just completed Project Redwoods! We accomplished a lot for the redwoods and ourselves. We visited local redwoods at Descanso Gardens with our families and learned facts about the importance of the redwoods trees. We wrote songs, made artwork, created dances and original instrumental pieces for guitar and percussion, recorded a cd and got a video of the project up on YouTube. We can still show our support of the redwoods by wearing our shirts and getting as many people to check out the YouTube video as possible! Go to the photos page for images of Project Redwood.

SAVE THE REDWOODS
Redwood trees
grow so high
bumble bees
fly up to the sky
little birds way up high

the tall trees
sway in the breeze
close to the sea

trees have so much to give
they give us oxygen to live
redwood trees grow so old
they are worth
more to us than gold

the tall trees
sway in the breeze
close to the sea

as i walk down the beach
i can see stars above the trees
people please
save the redwood trees

NATURE NEVER ENDS
There’s something i’d like to say
something i learned today
redwood trees, a gentle breeze
nature never ends
like the beauty of best friends

in the springtime the air
is as fresh as the pines
flowers blooming in the sun
the begins to shine
above these friends of mine

i have no fear to go outside
here i go on my own
out to see the bluebirds fly
and watch them them grow
on their on

the redwood trees
can grow so high
the butterflies flutter by
colors in the rainbow
shining bright

there’s something i’d like to say
something i learned today
redwood trees, a gentle breeze
nature never ends
like the beauty of best friends
